Morocco Atlas mountain trekking itinerary:

Day 1: Marrakech travel to Ouzoud Waterfalls – Travel to Ait Bouguemez valley

 

Departure at 8h in the morning from Marrakech to Ouzoud waterfalls, stop for hiking around to explore the Area with your local guide. Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant at Azilal. Once arrived to Ait Bouguemez valley, Go for a walk around to enjoy the Happy valley and explore the surrounding.

Day 2: Trekking from Ait Bouguemez to Ikkis N’Arous 

Travel to the valley of Ait Bouguemez (or ‘Happy Valley’), we meet our team of muleteers. After loading the mules, we start our hike to Ikkis N Arous (2300m) passing by the village of Arous and its beautiful valley and gorges.

Day 3: Trekking from Ikkis N’Arous -Tizi n’TarkediteTarkedite plateau 

We will walk up to the pass of Tizi n’Tarkedite 3450m. Here we can see the summit of Mount M’goun (4068m) for the first time. With a long descent, we continue to our camp on the large plateau of Tarkedite (2900m). Approximately 6 hours walk. 

Day 3: Ascent of Mount M’goun (4068m) – Oulilimt 

We wake up early in the morning to enjoy dawn while our muleteer and the others take a shorter path to the bivouac. After climbing the summit of Mount M’goun with the limestone landscape covered in shells and fossils, we can enjoy the panoramic views especially on the south side of the Massif. A spectacular descent will bring us to the river that will take us to our campsite, close to the spring of Oulilimt (2600m). Approximately 7 hours walk.

Day 4: Ascent of Mgoun summit – camping inOulilimt

 
Hike to Mgoun’ summit today, We wake up early in the morning to enjoy dawn while our muleteer and the others take a shorter path to the bivouac in Oulilimt. After climbing the summit of Mount M’goun with the limestone landscape covered in shells and fossils, we can enjoy the panoramic views especially on the south side of the Massif. A spectacular descent will bring us to the river that will take us to our campsite, close to the spring of Oulilimt (2600m).

Day 5: Hiking from Oulilimt to Aflafal 

In order to relax today, we will take a shorter trek. In this way, we can enjoy the magnificent scenery of the gorges of Oulilimt. Then, the river will lead us to our camp at the riverside, near the spring of Aflafal (2100m). Approximately 4h30 walk.

 Day 6: Trekking from Aflafal to Ait Bouguemez valley via Tizi N’Ait Imi (2900m)

We follow the path near the river to Tighremt N’Ait Ahmed, where we change direction, a progressive ascent will lead us to an amazing panoramic view on the pass of Tizi N’Ait Imi (2900m), on Mount Ouaouglzate (3700m), Here we can see the natural borders between Azilal and Ouarzazate regions, as well as the two beautiful valleys of Ait Bouguemez and M’goun, A long descent will take us to our lodge “gîte d’étape” in the valley.

Day 7: Drive from Ait Bouguemez to Imi N Ifri – Travel to Marrakech 

On our last day of trekking in Atlas mountains in Mgoun massif, we take the car and drive via Ait Boulli red valley to Imi N Ifri which hosts the most spectacular caves in Morocco. Walk with your guide for few minutes and proceed to Marrakech.

1.Does this trip suits kids?

No, this is a hike that needs a certain level of  fitness and not suitable for the kids, however we always can design you trekking trip with kids upon request.

2. Do we always camp during this hike?

You will have two nights in a guest house in the valley of Ait Bouguemez, while the rest of the nights you will camp in a green plateaus and valleys.

3. Is food included? We will be served for food?

Yes, you will have full board during the trek. Over 6 people we provide a cook that will preper varied meals for you ( Saladas, couscous, pasta, kafta, Tagin…)

4. I never hiked before, can i do M’goun summit?

We offer a good guiding and assistance, however this hike need an average fitness. You always can do the hike, but skip the day of trekking to the summit.

5. Is the last night accommodation in Marrakech included?

Yes, we choose to offer an authentic Riad in Marrakech on the last day as well as the departure to the Airport in Marrakech the next day
